What children’s rooms look like in different parts of our planet: 21 emotional photos

Modern children often complain that parents do not want to buy a new phone for them, and at school they ask too many lessons. We are used to hearing this and no longer pay any attention to such complaints. But after these shots taken by photographer James Mollison, listening to this will become simply impossible.

With his exciting photo project, the author of the pictures, born in Kenya, raised in England and living in Venice, decided to remind us once again of the terrible social injustice and lack of equality in the world where we live. So the next time your child (or the child of your friends) asks for a new iPhone or refuses a “tasteless” dinner, show him these pictures.

Alex, 9 years old, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The boy does not have the opportunity to attend school, he roams the streets and asks for money. He can sleep anywhere - on the couch, on an empty bench, or simply on the pavement.

From the age of 6, the girl wears the same Iroquois as her parents. The whole family and their friends belong to punk culture. They created their own commune, where they live and support each other.

Since 3 years, Indira has been working at the local granite quarry. The girl also attends school. She lives with her parents in a house where there is only one room with one bed and one mattress. Indira is sleeping on a mattress with her brother and sister.

Erlen, 14 years old, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Erlen is pregnant for the third time since 12 years. Her first two children were born dead. She sleeps on the bed that her mother lost to her due to pregnancy. Before that, the girl usually slept on the floor.

Ghost lives with parents and 11 brothers and sisters in a Palestinian refugee camp. She shares a room with 5 sisters. Her brother Mohammed killed himself and 23 civilians in a terrorist attack against Israel, undermining himself in 1996. Immediately after this, the Israeli military destroyed the house and all the property of the family.

This means that he is forbidden to leave the house in the evening, to carry drugs, alcohol and knives. The boy was diagnosed with impaired attention, a disorder of the type of hyperactivity and schizophrenia.
