Swiss Riviera: by car around Lake Geneva

Switzerland is good not only for its famous winter resorts. Emerald meadows and vineyards are in no way inferior to snow-capped peaks. Of particular note is the Lake Geneva region, which is called the Swiss Riviera. A picturesque road stretches along its shores, which beckons travelers to set off on quiet coastal towns.

Geneva (Geneve): watch the dances of the je-Do fountain (Jet d'Eau)

We start our route in the early morning in Geneva. It is the largest coastal city and perhaps the most peaceful place in all of Europe. An obligatory point of the tourist program is the famous Jet d'Eau city fountain. From the Mont Blanc bridge, the most spectacular view opens onto it. You should definitely look into the old city, look at St. Peter's Basilica. Along the embankment of Geneva there are many cozy restaurants where you can drink a cup of real Swiss coffee in clear water and go further on the road.

Lausanne: ride along the vineyards

Having overcome a little more than 50 kilometers, we find ourselves in Lausanne. Wine connoisseurs should immediately catch the familiar notes in the name of the city. They make the best wine in Switzerland. In general, the city immediately disposes to itself - pacifying landscapes go well with beautiful medieval architecture. It is no coincidence that Lausanne was the favorite place of many famous people - Byron and Mozart, Hugo and Dickens. Now it is the most youth resort of the coast. International festivals take place here every summer, and on weekends farmer's markets open with all kinds of local cheeses. The main attraction is Notre Dame Cathedral (Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Lausanne). Its tower offers a beautiful view of the whole city.

Vevey: taste famous local specialties Cafe de la clef

It is best to stop by for lunch in the small town of Vevey, which is halfway between Lausanne and Montreux. The most famous cafe is Cafe de La Clef, where you can have a feast on the stomach, try local fried perches, world famous cheese fondue and raclette, and order dessert for tiramisu. If you have time, take a stroll through the central Grand Place, where local open-air fairs are often held.

Montreux: rise to Chillon Castle

On the way from Vevey on a small hill is the aristocratic town of Montreux. In summer, the most famous jazz festival takes place here. Montreux is worth a look for inspiring views of Lake Geneva and, of course, the ancient Chillon Castle on a small island. The castle is open to the public daily. Climb to the very top of the main tower to enjoy the evening view of the lake and leave Switzerland in your heart forever.
