"Chandelier" - a stunning installation in the Italian forest, which collects rain

The other day, the world flew around the pictures of a stunning installation installed in one of the forests of Italy. The author of the project, called The Reservoir, is John Grade. His creation looks like a dazzling chandelier in the open, sheltered by a thick canopy of pine branches. It is unique in that it interacts with nature, allowing us to visualize the effects of rain and snow.

The installation hung in a pine grove consists of five thousand drops. With this extraordinary work, Grad, who adores nature in all its manifestations, wanted to express his admiration for the graceful grandeur of how rain overcomes the dense foliage of trees.

As rainwater or snow collects in man-made “drops,” the position and shape of the nets changes. Such an excellent work of the artist was inspired by walks in the forest during quiet, monotonous rains.

When precipitation evaporates, the creation of Grade takes its original form.

A special design controls the stretching of the nets, so that the droplets are always at least three meters above the surface.

Even very slight precipitation is enough for viewers to see the author’s idea in action.

In a dry form, the installation weighs 32 kg, but, filled during a heavy rain, it can reach 363 kg.
