Swiss robot recruited on the offshore platform

The four-legged robot ANYmal is known for its unique mobility and ability to overcome various obstacles that arise in its path. He can dance to various music, climb stairs, open doors and perform other interesting tricks. He proved himself so well that he was even hired as a service employee providing the functioning of the offshore platform.

ANYmal was created by ANYbotics engineers from Robotic Systems Lab, a company based in Zurich's Swiss Higher Technical School. He is a competitor to another famous four-legged robot - SpotMini, which was designed by Boston Dynamics. In the meantime, his main rival revels in the fame of a dancer, collecting thousands of views on the network, the ANYmal robot went into serious business. He was hired by the offshore platform.

The robot is equipped with four legs, which allows it to easily move around the platform, overcoming steps, pipes, cables and other obstacles. A smart assistant to an offshore platform maintenance engineer can detect existing system malfunctions and record any changes in readings. ANYmal copes with the tasks assigned, and the developers have already begun to improve this model. Now the main task facing the engineers is to teach the robot not only to detect irregularities in the system, but also to independently eliminate them. If this goal is achieved, then the robot will be able to work on the platform independently, without the presence of people, which will reduce the cost of operating a remote offshore platform.

And in this video you can see how the ANYmal robot looks in motion.
