Trans-Baikal curly breed: the most charming horses in the world

Horses have been living next to humans for more than a thousand years. What kind of rocks have not been bred during this time in different parts of the planet. But among the equestrian variety, horses that have curly hair and are very rare stand out.

One of the most famous breeds of curly-haired horses is the Trans-Baikal curly horse. According to experts, nomadic peoples bred these horses in the 1st millennium BC. Throughout their history, these horses have remained in relative isolation, so their genetic material has been preserved in its original form. They have a strong physique, excellent health, very hardy and unpretentious to the conditions of detention. But their main feature is an incredibly soft and curly coat, which makes them look like fairy creatures.

To date, Transbaikal horses have about 300 heads.

Another breed of horse in which curly individuals are found is Lokai. These horses are bred in Tajikistan. According to preserved information, curly horses were driven to Tajikistan from the coast of the Aral Sea. In the Lokai breed, curly horses are only part of the livestock, but increasing their number is not difficult. The fact is that the gene for curly hair in horses is dominant, therefore the descendants of curly horses will most likely have this feature.

It is interesting that on the American continent there is a breed of horses with curly hair. This is the famous American curly-haired Bashkir in the United States, whose history of origin is full of mysteries. Despite the word "Bashkir" in the name of the breed, experts believe that the American curly horse has nothing to do with the Bashkir breed of horses that is bred in Russia. Researchers of this amazing breed believe that the first horses could get to America together with immigrants from our country, and these were the Transbaikal curly horses. The American Curly Bashkir is very popular in the USA. Horses of this breed are used for riding and in equestrian competitions.

But back to our Transbaikal horses. According to historians, horses of this breed named Gray own an outstanding record. In November 1889, horse-drawn centurion Dmitry Peshkov rode on Serom from the Amur Region in the direction of St. Petersburg. After 194 days, in May 1890 he arrived in St. Petersburg. He covered the entire path of 9500 kilometers on horseback, which at that time was already 13 years old.
